From our very humble beginnings at LUSH, our founders have been conscious of how our products and business practices interact with the environment. In doing so we've used creative and innovative solutions to make a positive impact on the planet.

Sustainability is a company-wide priority that flows through our products, from our hands to yours.  With over 900 stores worldwide and an ever-emerging global presence we are committed to becoming more sustainable the more that we grow. Environmental and social stewardship are critical elements in the business decisions that we make on a daily basis. We know that we can always do better in all that we do at LUSH.

We love it Naked

For decades Lush have been developing effective solid products that have traditionally been made in liquid form. Why? Because when you take the water out of products you don’t need preservatives. It’s also better value, as the product hasn’t been diluted with water. Solid products don’t require excess packaging either, so they’re kinder to your skin and the environment.

Creating Naked and packaging-free products at LUSH is at the core of our philosophy.  We'd rather put our efforts and our consumers money into what goes inside of our products instead of packaging. We use as little packaging in our LUSH shops as possible, and give you the choice to go completely Naked - we mean the products, not yourselves (although you may want to remove your clothing before hopping into the bath or shower). When we say “Naked” we are referring to our products that you can buy with absolutely no packaging at all.

About 46% of our products are naked (packaging free), including bath bombs, shampoo bars, bubble bars, massage bars, body butters and solid facial cleansers – reducing the amount of preservatives required and packaging sent to landfill.

Consider this; if everyone in Australia used solid shampoo bars, then we would be reducing landfill by over nine million bottles a year.

Where wrapping paper is used, it is 100% recycled and recyclable. Some of it is also biodegradable, and even compostable.

Not only do we invent innovative ways of creating eco-friendly naked products, but we also make sure we are environmentally conscious when packaging is unavoidable.

We package our products as simply as possible, so that none our customer’s money is spent on excessive and wasteful presentation. This ensures that all money that is spent on our products is for the quality of the product itself.

Our liquid products are sold in 100% post-consumer recycled plastic and are 100% recyclable. We encourage our customers to be creative with the re-use of product pots when they have finished the product inside. These can be used for paint pots, to grow herbs and small plants, stationary holders, and so on. Alternatively, customers can bring back five of these empty black pots to receive a free Fresh Face Mask. This ensures that all of our used packaging is recycled, rather than simply thrown away, to end up in landfill.

We create  re-usable gift packaging that is almost just as exciting as the products inside. Our range of tins and boxes are so beautiful, you woudn't ever want to throw them away.

When buying individual product as gifts, we encourage people to present it in one of our stunning knot wraps. These are based on the Japanese tradition of ‘furoshiki’, where the wrapping of the gift becomes a part of the gift itself. Our furoshiki scarves are made out of recycled plastic or unique vintage scarves.

Our pots and bottles are made from BPA-Free, 100% post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic.

Our store carrier bags are made with 100% post-consumer recycled paper and are compostable.

Our gifts are wrapped in 100% recycled paper and packaged with biodegradable filler.

Our products are biodegradable.
